📣 We will update the latest Cup winner predictions here in this post, as the playoffs progress.
It's the beginning of the playoffs spring, and you can feel the excitement. Anything can happen, says a New Yorker. If you followed our playoff predictions last season, you know it's (almost 😉) anybody's game. Before round 1 last season, we had predicted Toronto to win it all, but they just couldn't break the curse of the opening round. But after round 1, also our predictions changed drastically as our system is dynamically able to learn the new bracket and possible outcomes. As a result, since the beginning of round two last season, we had placed our money for Colorado to bring home the Cup — which they did! 🎉
Boston absolutely dominated the regular season. They are not only a familiar face in the playoffs but also seem to compete in a different league: Boston enters the playoffs with an eight game winning streak, 9-1-0 in their last ten games, and carry a goal differential of +128! Other contender teams have a hard time to match even a half of it.
So, the Maple Leafs haven't won a playoff series since spring 2004. However, they are coming in behind the overpowered Bruins, which might alleviate some of their mental challenges. In addition, also Toronto has been quite hot at closing the regular season: four game winning streak and 7-1-2 in their last 10 — maybe this is their year, at least on the 1st round 😁.
In the Western Conference, it's business as usual. Edmonton is winning games where the score is 7-5 and they're coming in as the hottest team of the league, but their game plan may fall short in the tighter playoff games (which already happened in the G1 OT loss against the Kings). Minnesota has a solid regular season behind them, but they haven't proven themselves in the playoffs. Colorado, Dallas, Vegas, and Los Angeles are common logos in the postseason. Seattle from the first wild card berth may offer a pleasant surprise — our predictions rank them reletively high in the Cup prediction chart.
